When music fans today log on Ares download to get the latest tunes from their favorite artists, it is fast, safe and reliable. But only some years ago, sharing music online was not as easy or fast, and there was always a serious risk of being sued by the music industry if you were hosting any files. Music sharing really got of with Napster, the first software for sharing music directly between users, although the files were actually hosted on servers. This eventually became the downfall for Napster, since it was too easy to identify who hosted the files.
When Kazaa was introduced, it was a small revolution of file sharing. By using a revolutionary system, where users could share parts of a file or song, there were no longer a need for any central servers to host on. This made it so much easier to download music online. Kazaa had a lot of security issues and spyware though and ended up being sold for profit.
The newest in the line of file sharing is the Ares download, which is faster and safer than ever before, and is open source, which means that no one owns the code. This will make sure that Ares stays around for a long time.
